Disciplined K9 Training Philosophy

At Disciplined K9, we believe in creating balanced dog training programs that unlock each dog’s potential and help them navigate everyday challenges. Our focus is on fostering strong leadership, as dogs thrive on guidance and structure. We teach modern training techniques that emphasize understanding canine instincts, empowering you to become the confident figure your dog can rely on.

It’s important to show affection appropriately; misguided affection can reinforce negative behaviors. Success in training relies heavily on your consistent engagement—approximately 80% from you and 20% from us. Our goal is for your dog to respond to you as their leader, strengthening the bond between you and ensuring they thrive as a cherished member of your family.

Viki Lau

Viki Lau’s passion for animals has been a lifelong journey, beginning in her childhood. Among all the pets she cared for, it was the world of dogs that captivated her the most. To pursue this passion, Viki made the bold decision to leave her various jobs in pet care and dog walking to fully immerse herself in canine training. As she deepens her understanding of canine behavior, Viki is increasingly motivated to use her exceptional skills to assist dog owners struggling with behavioral challenges. With a degree in psychology and extensive travel experience that has enriched her understanding of different dog training methodologies, Viki brings a unique perspective to her work.

Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and French (having studied for four years in France), she is equipped to engage with a diverse clientele. Viki holds the philosophy that there are no inherently “dangerous breeds”; rather, she believes that responsible dog ownership and effective handling are crucial for a dog’s positive development. Through her dedicated approach, Viki aims to empower dog owners and strengthen the bond between them and their canine companions.

Viki graduated from Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers back in 2019, she learned lots of valuable training skills from Michael Ellis, foremost Dog Trainer. She also attended many Cheri Lucas‘s workshops. Cheri Lucas is an internationally recognized Dog Behaviorist Expert and she was featured on the TV Show Dog Whisperer . Viki remains committed to her professional development by attending more workshops over the years, including Ivan Balabanovs “Make Your Dog Somebody.” workshop to deepen her understanding of advanced training techniques that distinguish TWC methods from traditional approaches. Ivan Balabanov has over 40 years of experience in dog training, breeding, dog sport, protection, and civil work. As the founder of Ot Vitosha Malinois, Ivan breeds world class dogs that are capable of everything from being a family pet, being champions of dog sport, and assisting local police, as well as handling dangerous and clandestine missions around the world in Special Forces teams.

With almost a decade of of experience and observation on dog psychology, Viki is not only a certified AKC CGC Evaluator, but she also knows how to handle any breeds with different temperaments and biologocial needs. She works with different rescues and shelters such as A Girl’s Best Friend Rescue, Love & Second ChancesKorean K9 RescueHara SF and Friends Madera Animal Shelter and more to not only help pick out the right dog for the right family, but she also continues helping with their training needs. Dogs are dying in shelters every day, and most of the cases are caused by behavioral issues and irresponsible dog ownership. One of her missions is to rehabilitate dogs to turn them into a well-balanced pack member for your family.

Dogs can only learn so much from us, they still need to learn from their own kind. With the help of her personal dogs Tasha, a Shepard mix, Kaya, a German Shepard, Camila, a retired Police K9 Belgian Malinois and Rayna, a Chocolate Lab; Her pack has been successfully assisting and rehabilitated almost thousands of dogs over the years. In her free time, she’s also involved in dog sports with her dogs Kaya, Camila for PSA training and Rayna for Detection training.
