Disciplined K9 Training Philosophy
We understand the importance of creating a balanced dog training program that brings out each dog’s full potential. This way they will know how to handle everyday real life challenges by making the right choices. Our ultimate goal is to strengthen your relationship with your dog. We LOVE dogs as much as you do. That’s why we are so passionate! All dogs have pack drive, they crave for leadership, guidance and structure more than anything. They desperately need a strong pack leader who can take charge and shows them the right direction. At Disciplined K9, it’s our job to help you understand our modern training techniques and your dog’s instinct needs while teaching your dog to become balanced and obedient.
Because of their intelligence, they can sense different energy. With that said, when you feel upset, nervous and scared, your dog may want to “protect” you by growling, lunging, and biting people. Your victim could be a friend, a family member, a child or another animal. That is why factors such as when and how to give affection are crucial. If we humanize our dogs and give them too much affection at the wrong time, we are actually reinforcing the bad behaviors and nurturing anxiety. When time goes by, your dogs will very likely to create problems that could potentially cause danger in your daily life. At Disciplined K9, we decode canine psychology with each and every client we encounter. We don’t only teach dog training, we also teach you leadership skills that can help every dog owner become a strong, confident pack leader that their dog can rely on.
Together, we are a team! We are here and always will be here to support you along the way of your dog’s journey to growth and development. We are always honest with our clients and we try to be as transparent as possible when it comes to expectations. Also, keep in mind that every dog’s learning ability is different, that is why we created a unique program that works for your dog. We never want to push a dog too hard to get a faster result, because it never works that way. All the training we do is going to be approximately20% from the trainer and 80% from the dog owner. We encourage you to work with your dog daily and consistently to achieve the results you have always desired. Because, at the end of the day, your loving dog lives with you and he/she is an important part of your life. We want you to learn and utilize our techniques in real life situations even when we are not around. Our purpose is that your dog should listen because of your authority figure, not because of the trainer’s presence.
Viki Lau
Viki Lau’s passion for animals started ever since she was a little girl. Out of all the pets she grew up with, the canine world is what fascinates her the most. In order to follow her true passion, she quit her multiple jobs involving pet care and dog walking to enter the canine training world. The more she studies about dogs, the more she wants to use her extraordinary gift to help dog owners who are struggling with their poorly behaved dogs. Not only does she have a psychology degree under her belt already, she also traveled the world to educate herself about different dog training styles. She is also a multilingual who speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, English and French ( she studied 4 years in France) .There’s no such thing as “dangerous breeds” in her philosophy. However, she does believe dog handlers/owners play an important role for their dog’s development.
Viki graduated from Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers back in 2019, she learned lots of valuable training skills from Michael Ellis, foremost Dog Trainer. She also attended many Cheri Lucas‘s workshops. Cheri Lucas is an internationally recognized Dog Behaviorist Expert and she was featured on the TV Show Dog Whisperer . With almost a decade of of experience and observation on dog psychology, Viki is not only a certified AKC CGC Evaluator, but she also knows how to handle any breeds with different temperaments and biologocial needs. She works with different rescues and shelters such as A Girl’s Best Friend Rescue, Love & Second Chances, Korean K9 Rescue, Hara SF and Friends Madera Animal Shelter etc to not only help pick out the right dog for the right family, but she also continues helping with their training needs. Dogs are dying in shelters every day, and most of the cases are caused by behavioral issues. One of her missions is to rescue and rehabilitate dogs to turn them into a well-balanced pack member for your family. Her hope is one day no more dogs are sent to shelters to be euthanized.
Dogs can only learn so much from us, they still need to learn from their own kind. With the help of her personal dogs Tasha, a Shepard mix, Kaya, a German Shepard, Camila, a Belgian Malinois and Rayna, a Chocolate Lab; Her pack has been successfully assisting and rehabilitated almost thousands of dogs over the years. In her free time, she’s also involved in dog sports with her dogs Kaya, Camila for PSA training and Rayna for Detection training.
